A warning to Rami
« Reply #30 on: June 14, 2003, 03:45:49 PM »
Rami - It is a 1973 Alembic serial number 30.  It has a walnut top and back with an oak core.  It's neck is made of purpleheart and maple, but backwards from what we are used to.  Purpleheart is the main wood of the neck.  PF5 electrics and VERY sweet.  I am hoping to send this one back to it's creators for a refurb someday.  It is in need of frets and some other stuff.  Still use it though.

I see this parallel model/product shot paradigm developing along the lines of the biker and 4 wheeling mags - you know, the barley clad bombshell astride the chromed, track-eating monster. I just wonder if we'll find ourselves forgetting whats on display: the ride, or the low-end eye-candy!? LOL

Alas, this is one catagory where my participation is soley vicarious..

You know guys, you don't need a digital camera to post pics.  When I have pictures developed, I ask to have them archived to CD as well.  That way you can email them.  (All my pics were taken with an el-cheapo disposable camera.  They still came out ok).

Me, I'm a Saab fan. As good as all those Beemers and Mercs (BTW, is there anything more banal and cliche than a Mercedes?... Yuk) but waaaay more discreet. I don't like cars which shout 'hey, I'm rich' in your face. I like cool, groovy cars for individualists. Cars with personality.

With basses it's a totaly diferent story - Alembics do have loads of soul, but... they sure are showy! And I love them. ;-)

Brothers thebass is back on earth from planet Porsche. Those 4 testing days did really put me into adrenaline mode. Jesus ! Did anyone ever drive a normal car at 300km/h (about 180 MPH) ? I thought it was just a funny number on the Odometer but hell, they are really capable of that... and even more. Oh boy, I still feel the adrenaline pumping.

BTW: In germany you will rather get more views if you drive by in a Saab than in a Mercedes. And everyone will turn their head if you come along in a 5,7l Firebird. I am a big fan of that sound :-) I guess this is different in the US.

The Porche in the brochure belongs to Sam Field. He used to work here and now he's a part owner of the company. The plate was from back when California only has 6 letters in the license number. The picture was taken in about 1979.

Sam Field!  He is my hero.  He made me feel welcome in the Alembic family waaaaay back when.  He was very influential in my decision to use small bodied basses.  For me, it all started with him.  I hope to meet him someday.
