Alembic Speakers

I have frequently read that Jerry Garcias stage set-up included three Alembic B-12 Speaker Cabs.  Does anyone have any info about Alembics production/specs./etc. concerning speakers/cabs/etc.?

I'm no expert, but I believe Garcia used Hard Trucker cabinets loaded with JBL E-120 speakers. He had both a 3x12 and a 4x12 cabinet and he seemed to switch between them fairly frequently, probably depending on which one sounded best at the venue. Going way back he may have used some kind of cabs built by Alembic or Bag End, but through the late 1970's and up until the Dead went to in-ear monitors and got rid of amps on stage that seemed to be his rig. Even then, he kept the Hard Trucker/JBL combo with the JGB.

I don't know much about this stuff, but here goes.  I know that Alembic used A,B,C, and D to designate how many speakers were in each cabinet.  The size of the speaker designated the number of the cabinet.  For example, if Garcia used a B-12 cabinet, that would be 2 - 12 inch speakers.  A D-12 cabinet would be four twelves, A-15 a single fifteen inch, and so on.  They used to come loaded with whatever you wanted, but mostly were JBL and Gauss.  They used to have a showroom that you could A B the different brands in different configurations. If I am not mistaken, the cabs they used to make were for the most part sealed enclosures.  I think it would be cool to have an A-15 with a tie dyed front.

I have also heard Jerry used Hard Truckers and prior to that Alembic created the Wall of Sound used by the band in the 70's, I believe. Anyway there's a website with pretty good info on the equipment used by everyone in the Grateful Dead.
