a few years ago I owned a Hughes & Kettner preamp. A great preamp, it had many features onboard. A few of them came in handy for that 'Stan-sound'. It had a 'treble boost' and a compresser onboard. When I used those, I almost had a perfect 'Stansound'! So, I suppose, if you use a good compressor, turn your treble up a bit, use lightgauge strings, turn your neck pickup way up, and most of all play the strings very intense.... perhaps you'll get there.
But I must say, I believe that Stanley has some built-in compressors in his fingertips....
