I'll be in New York next week for a few days and would like to check out an interesting guitar shop. Something that has used and unusual guitars, you know, the kind of place where one might find a used Alembic once in a while.

The last time I was in the City, a couple of years ago, I did the 48th Street thing and was thoroughly disappointed. It seemed there were less shops than there used to be, and there were few interesting used instruments.

Anywhere in the NY metropolitan area would work, especially in Westchester County. So, here's your chance to tell me where to go! LOL

I like Rudy's on 48th Street. Didn't see any Alembics the last time I was there. They do have one of the best selection of boutique effects pedals I've come across. Really nice guys, too. I grew up in Westchester. The only place that was any good was a shop called Guiliani's Guitars. It was in White Plains, just off Westchester Avenue, next to the Bengal Tiger Restaurant. I don't know either is still there. To quote Fred Sanford - It's been a lotta years, Bubba...a lotta years.

Thanks Jonathan. I checked on whitepages.com and there doesn't appear to be a listing for Guiliani's, but I'll check it out when I get there. Should be easy to drive by - we're staying in Tarrytown and will be driving down to Bronxville where my parents live for the family stuff (belated Father's day and my mom's 80th b-day). The only shop I know of in White Plains is Sam Ash - I bought my Baby Taylor there 5 or 6 years ago. I know Rudy's too. I bought my Taylor 810 there about 9 or 10 years ago. I'll probably wind on on 48th street anyway since my 10 year old has two destinations on his must see list - Pokemon Center at Rockefeller Center and FAO Schwarz.

By the way, congrats on having the new guitar's serial number named after you. Very cool.

Guiliani's (if I'm spelling correctly) was on East Post Road, right next to the Bengal Tiger. I know the vintage guitar market was kind of in a lull during the 90's, so they may not have weathered the storm. Let me know.

I called the Bengal Tiger...Guiliani moved back to Italy a few years ago. Sorry.

Guliani's from Westchester, has morphed into two stores in Conenecticut. One is in Stamford, the other is in Darien. They are both managed by his son Bobby Guliani. Dad has gone back to Italy.
