What's the deal? Did Alembic build this guitar or not? As I understand the story they did, but at some point it was given to former Alembic employee Doug Irwin for some repair work and in the process he replaced the Alembic logo on the headstock with his own? Is this correct? If so is this an honorable way for a fellow luthier to behave? Can someone enlighten me as to the true story? And While we're at it, Ed Roman claims that Bruce Becvar built JPJ's Triple O. Anyone?

My understanding, (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong), is that the story goes something like this.  Doug Irwin worked for Alembic and on Wolf when Wolf (not yet called Wolf), was built by Alembic.  Garcia bought it and put the wolf decal on below the bridge.  Then it fell and the headstock broke off.  By this time, Irwin was no longer with Alembic.  Jerry took Wolf to Irwin for the repair.  Irwin replaced the headstock and swapped the Alembic logo (I believe I've seen early pics of Wolf with the Alembic logo ) for his own, a flying Eagle or something.  He also replaced the wolf decal with the inlaid version.

As for the Ed Roman claim, I remember a thread about it on this site (I suspect Dave, our esteemed moder, will find it) in which Mica of Val debunk Roman's version.

Susan discusses a little bit of the history of Wolf and Tiger here - http://club.alembic.com/Images/395/11103.html

There are some scans from the Guernsey's Auction Catalogue here - http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/2525.html

I think it's great that the guitar is back in the world of musicians that consider it an old friend.
