For my birthday, my wife bought me my other dream guitar - a new Zemaitis metal front. I've been in love with these since I first saw Greg Lake playing one. I just never had the $50-70,000 for an original. Recently Zemaitis has been reborn. Hand crafted and hand engraved, it is one of the most striking instruments I've ever seen - true to the original design in every respect, except for the color in this case. There have been three black prototypes produced. This is one of them. I was skeptical at first because of the stigma so often attached to Japanese guitars. But as someone very wise told me - it's not where a guitar is made...it's how it's made. Many say that the quality of these instruments surpasses the originals. For while Tony was indeed a true artist, many of the guitars were still somewhat crude. I can't attest to the validity of that myself as I've never played one of Tony's originals. But I see no way of improving on this one. These pictures are courtesy of Make 'n Music in Chicago, from where the guitar was purchased. I never thought I'd see the day when the Little Bear would be watching the game from the sidelines! I know it's only temporary.

Happy birthday and congrats.  The hand work on it is beautiful.  How does it sound and play?

Wow Jonathan - Congratulations! That is absolutely beautiful!! I have always loved the Zemaitis guitars with the full engraved metal tops. I've never seen one up close or heard one. Does it sound as good as it looks? Steve Kimock plays a similar type of guitar made by Tom Cerletti - very unique instrument. Enjoy it and happy birthday.

Yeah I agree it looks great. It must be heavy on your shoulders that one.
