i beleive that all instruments have as much personality as people and name mine as i think they deserve it i have an epic which i called jazzmine as she has a real african look to her i feel cause of the bubinga top and an ibanez called morag as i am scottish and i thought this was a cool name what do you other guys name yours and why

would it make sense if the name of my Spyder4 would be Boris?
And the 8? Ox?

Oliver,

Spiders are not insects because they have either 6 legs instead of 8, or 8 instead of 6. So if it's 8, then obviously Spyder8 should be called Boris ... and otherwise you'll just have to order a Spyder6 ... luckily an Ox has 4 legs!

Ahlala - Brother Adriaan is really our smarter bassplayer.

Names ...what I'm concerned that's a well known story. My bass is called Bonnie after the woman-musician I really adore: Bonnie Raitt. Saw her about 30 years ago in Brussels live at the Mallemunt festival and ...well I still know every detail ...what she played ...how she was dressed wew ....!
And her slide-playing ...gosh!

I'm working on 2 other basses: the Peejay and the Chi but ...well ...I have to face it: they are so planned so far in the future that it's even secret for me!!!

Oddly enough, I've never named any of my Alembics. I always used the names they came with, the Rogue, the Exploiter, the Persuader. Except for the 8-string Spoiler which is called for some reason The 8 String.

A band I was playing with a few years back had two guitar players who had white strats with black pick guards and I occasionally used a white St. Blues jazz bass that had a black pick guard. We thought that together they looked like a herd of cows and named them Elsie, Flossie and Bessie....

You've got me thinking about it now. My Rogue 5 probably deserves a name like Dark Thunder or something.....

I go along with Ollie's line of thinking. Why do they have to be named something feminine? If a woman sang like my Alembic does she would have hair sprouting from her chin.
Let's see, it's compact but mighty. It's called an Epic. Maybe Cuchulain would be the best name.

i think that they can be guys too my friends 6 string fretless is named after a french bass player that wears gloves forgot his name it just depends maybe im weird but i think the bass lets you no over time i liked the way you worked in the j entwistle thing oliver very clever

I try not to name my instruments simply because I usually end up selling them to feed my GAS (there really should be something you can take for that)and I don't want to get too attached! I nearly named my SC signature (1st Alembic) but luckily didn't; it was hard enough to sell as it was! I'll have to see if the next one gets a name. The only exception to the above rule is my 72 Rickenbacker which I aim to keep forever, which is simply known as the Voice.

After I got the Spoiler, my brother in law happened by the house one day. When I brought it into the room, he says 'wow, that's a big red bass! That's all it took, and ther it was.

The white Yamaha 5000a had the wide neck, unlike the 'classic taper' of the Spoiler. So it became 'the white double-wide'.

Silly, ain't it? I never named basses till the Spoiler adopted me.

I was never much to name instruments, either. I'm in a band with this guy that names Everything! So, my Bird's-Eye Maple Epic is now known as Blondie, my Bocate Orion is Black Oak, and my Bubinga Orion (with Std. Pt. body) is The Demon Seed! I usually call it The Big Kahuna since it's easily the biggest, heaviest bass I've ever played. The sound makes it worth it!
