That's usually asked just before or after '...and how many basses do you have?' along with, '...and how many can you play at a time?'

But after you bought the Alembic you said that you would never ever need another bass again!

OK, but what exactly does this one do that the others can't do?

So I've made a deal with my 'senior management': there will not be any more guitars and/or basses added to the collection, meaning that for every one that comes, another one must go.

I think it's reasonable enough, both the essential financial resources and the space in my 'music room' aren't unlimited...

I guess it's a case of swings and roundabouts - we have bass guitars, they have shoes and handbags. I've lost track of the number of times I've said 'What, another pair of shoes? I haven't seen you wear the pair you bought last week yet!!'

By my reckoning, 1 Alembic bass = c.4 pairs of Manolo Blahnicks + 3 Christian Dior handbags. Which means I'm nearly due another bass . . .

For those who have retained their bachelorhood, I would offer this advice when the woman of your dreams appears as Venus on the half-shell.
If you love me, you'll love my basses!

Hey, here's an idea. Instead of an expensive wedding ring for the groom, ask her to pay for your new Alembic that will last as long (actually longer) as the love that you both share. BTW she should pay as much as you do for the engagement ring. ....So if you want a series 2..........

Jacqueline - What? ANOTHER synthesizer? Can't we have another Alembic instead?

Me - I didn't realise you'd learnt to play bass guitar but that's an excellent idea!

i'm currently awaiting a nice disability settlement and i mentioned to my wife that when it comes thru i'm going to buy either another alembic (custom) or a buzzard. i told her she could have the rest to do whatever she wanted to do with.  the new decency regulations prevent me from sharing her response but needless to say it was not a positive one.  maybe i should just take all the money and get a divorce and the new bass.

Peter - Trust me, the divorce is MUCH more expensive...and she'll be entitled to half of it anyway.

Roger - My wife left Alembic saying (only half joking) that she wanted to learn Bass because the instruments were just so beautiful Maybe we should hook our senior management(s) up with Dino and see if another Alembic will be an option...

I've got to say that my wife has been really supportive to the music thing, and the only times she gets exasperated with me, it's only because I've earned it. Besides, she has already given me a 5 year no-buy restriction. Hmmmm... if it's from order date of first to delivery date of second...six month build time for Series 2...I think another trip to Santa Rosa's in order...
:-)

Hey Ken,

Yeah man, I've been put on hold since I bought my latest Harley.  Funny she doesn't have a problem with me buying bikes but when it comes to instruments....  boy look out!!!
Because of my profession, she looks at it like having 5 fax machines in the office.  Well don't they all do the same thing?
My angle has always been, if its a $3000 bass, budget $6000 because she's gonna want something of equal value.

Peace,

My wife, an opera singer, seems to understand. She says, When it comes to yiur basses honey, I wont get in the way.  Yes- I about fainted when I heard that. I was telling her how hard it is to resist buying another Orion, and that's what she said. Well, two Alembics later, she still loves me, and hasn't set out to suprise me with any big $ items. She only needs her scores and time to rehearse. Yup- all's well here! I just told her I have the urge for a six string- she listened and asked interesting questions about what design I'd like and why. Uh, yeah, I'm lucky!!!
