If you are talking about the guy holding the Custom Essence, I think he's a pretty important part of the picture.  Have we seen pictures of this bass before?

The Essence looks sweet Frank. I'm running an ampeg BSEX410HLF and/or two Hartke 4X10 cabs depending on the coverage I need. (or any one by itself or any combination!) And I'm pushing it with an Ampeg SVT PRO 5 head. I use to use a Trace Eliot combo cab with a 15 Trace speaker built in (I don't know who makes speakers for Trace) and a Hartke 4X10 bottom (One 15 speaker and 4X10's is a nice combo)and loved it but I guess my taste has changed ... I've become an Ampeg lover. Of course in the same time period I've also become an ALL Alembic player so I guess taste can change!

Try TWO Eden D210XST's instead of the one D410XST (especially the 4 Ohm cabs, if your amp can drive 2 Ohm parallel loads like my WT-550 Traveller). It's a little pricier, but the two 2X10 cabs do sound better (i.e., tighter and lower) than the single 4X10. I got turned on to that one by Gard and Beaver over at Bass Central. You are definitely right about getting what you pay for.

Hey Kevin:  Gard told me the same thing.  I'm waiting for my first Eden 210 XST (4 ohm) to come in.  Like you mentioned, I'm going to drive it at 2 ohms with another 4.  I'm going to try it with my 4 ohm Acme LowB-2 and see how it works out (2 ohms off my QSC 2402 is 1200w, so it should be enough).  I'm hoping the XST is more to my liking than the Acme.  That way I'll consider a second XST to replace the Acme.  Or perhaps they'll compliment each other. I'm not sure I'd want to put on another Acme.  Frankly, the Acme sound is just a little too neutral sounding for my taste.

Not only are the Edens top-shelf sound- and quality-wise, but the rig is super portable. A 4x10 is a little too much to haul by yourself, even if you're a husky 215#, 6-footer like myself (albeit with a bad back and knee). Those 2x10's can be easily lifted solo, and they fit perfectly in the back seat area (with the fold-flat floor) of my Dodge Ram 4x4. The amp is awesome as well: I bought the Eden 1000d cordura padded shoulder bag that has room for cables and accesories. Gard also recommended Le Cover for cabinet covers (Eden didn't offer them for the brand-new XST's yet)...Larry LeCover was awesome...he used to make the factory covers for Eden until USM took over and stiffed him for the old Eden billables....he custom made me padded 1000d covers for cheap money. Gard and Beaver are tops...great service and awesome prices. They have a store-full of really expensive gear, but are willing to sell you what's best for you, not what's best for their profit margin. I've said it before: they told me they can play anything they want, but virtually the whole staff at Bass Central plays Eden.

I've got an acquaintance who abuses a Pedulla through an Eden setup.  I despise his tone (and his 4-hour bass solos), and subconsciously must have always attributed it to the Eden rig.  I guess probably he just doesn't have any semblance of taste or musical decorum, and the Eden rigs feels physical pain at having to reproduce his cuts-through-glass-like-a-chainsaw-on-a-rope tone.  Perhaps it's time I grew up and gave Eden a listen.  And yes, my acquaintance plays bass like Yngwie Malmsteen so I am a bit envious of his superior chops..

You know John, tone really comes from the player.  His technique, control settings, instrument, strings, the grubbiness of his fingers etc...  A quality instrument and amp will only reproduce what the player is producing, not make him/her sound better.  Garbage in = Garbage out

Ahhh, Yngwie! This could start a whole other thread, LOL! Just saw him a couple months back...still amazing, whether you like neo-classical dungeon metal or not. Rudy Sarzo was on bass! Still looks the same, still plays the same: rock solid. And he uses AMPEG! LOL!

Hear, Hear! kmh346! We all have different tastes. I don't think that anyone should feel that it is important to agree or disagree about anyone's sound. One man's gold is another man's sheit! I do sound every weekend, I mix my own digital recordings, I collectively work on my band's recordings at small and large studios and I teach marching band. (I even opened for Yngwie a few years back at the Birch Hill) I have my preference. (my preference, Epi) Back in the day I used an 18 W bin w a 412 Sunn with an 800 watt BGW amp w Dean Markley preamp. Today I would wretch at that rig. Check em' all and let God sort em' out!

Danno: It wasn't my intention to insinuate mine's better than yours or to insult anyone, just to state what I use. Certainly everyone's entitled to their own opinion, I have my own and it's subject to change without notice, LOL! Yngwie is awesome and so is Rudy. If you opened for Yngwie, you know he is an egomaniac/controll freak that prefers to call ALL the shots. Despite this, Rudy came through the mix pretty good with his Fender bass and Ampeg 8X10 Rig (OK, I was standing on his side of the stage at extreme stage left, LOL!). Like I've said before, it's all good: let your ears and your wallet decide!

BTW: when you opened for Yngwie at Birch Hill, was it back in '96 when Yngwie jumped into the crowd mid-solo to duke some guy out that was heckling him? I still laugh about that one...Yngwie got back up on the stage after kicking the guy's a** and said Don't disturb me!!! while pointing at the guy. Priceless, LOL!
