Opinions - worth it to upgrade Spoiler electronics?

I?m a new Alembic owner ? I just picked up an ?87 Spoiler (not a Persuader - I can't seem to edit the topic).  After spending some time w/ it, I?m not as happy w/ the tonal range as I was expecting ? I?ve played other Alembics and really dug the Q filter, and was able to easily dial in some ideal tones across a broad range.  (My Persuader has a PU selector, volume, filter, and Q switch.)  The main sound I?m looking for (admittedly, difficult to describe tone) is a muted almost fretless sound.  My Persuader comes close (with the filter dialed between 1/3 and 1/2 of the way between muffled and bright), but it?s not quite there.  Also, on the Persuader, the muffled isn?t as muffled as the other Alembics I?ve heard, and the bright isn?t quite as bright.
 
So ? I?m wondering if an electronics upgrade would make sense.  I?ve read many of the threads in the forum, but haven?t really learned enough to make an informed decision.  I?ll keep digging through the archives, but any opinions on options would be greatly appreciated.

you might benefit from swapping the selector switch for either a pan or a second volume.  That would give you a much wider sonic palette to choose from. That way you can control how much of each pickup you want in your sound.

I like Val's suggestion.  In the meantime, you could try changing the gains of the pickups relative to each other by adjusting the trim pots inside the control cavity.  Also, changing the pickup heights will change the tone.
