Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, UFO, Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas, Doobie Bros.  Reading the names, I wondering if it might be centrally located in a temporal distortion; you take the Garden State Wormhole back about thirty years til you see Central Jersey.

I think I live in that temporal distortion.  It's so pretty here with all the voices inside my head joining in with four part harmony, and the sky such a lovely shade of paisley.....

Hey, even Dinosaur Rockers need to eat, LOL! Those record royalties only go so far: the 23yr-old future ex-wife needs a Mercedes, you go out on tour, Bubala!

There's also some modern bands (The Youth Ahead, Soulfly, Clutch, Insane Clown Posse, Type O Negative, etc.) but I don't know that much about them. Ck it and see for yourself: maybe some of them are cool.

Don't Forget Kings's X...they are awesome...Doug Pinnick on the subterranean bass (more like subsonic), LOL!

Just take exit 123 off of the Garden State Interdimensional Parkway Southbound...next stop, the Twilight Zone, LOL! (say that like a surly Rod Serling, LOL!)

You didn't mention Dark Star Orchestra. They're an interesting Grateful Dead cover band. They don't just cover the Dead's songs - they actually recreate shows song for song using the original arrangements.

RE:DSO/recreating improv?

it's like going to the wax museum..strange indeed.
even stranger is watching Donna Jean open up the show....I don't know what to think about this band. As much as I dig that GD music...I can't digest this show for some reason. It leaves me feeling very strange. anyone remember Beatlemania?

I have to agree. The DSO concept seems like an interesting exercise, rather than a show - scripted improvisation?? - more temporal distortion.

I saw YES Wednesday night with Dream Theater as the opener.  Dream Theater did a bitchin' but too short rendition of Machine Messiah.  I wonder how many acts get covered by their openers?
