Bill, I was being facetious; and Adriaan was responding to me in kind. Following the example of James Brown, I used to impose similar fines in the last group I was in. On stage between songs, the lead guitar player would sometimes play the first few notes of the next tune to make sure he had his effects and tone properly set up for the song. So there was a $5 fine for giving the song away. Also on stage between songs while waiting for the guitar players to tune up, the drummer would love to start in on the drum intro to Honky Tonk Woman, even though that song was not on the set list. So there was a $5 fine for that. And there were other similar fines. The fines were never collected, were instituted in a spirit of fun, and they made their point; the guitar player quit giving away the songs before we played them and the drummer quit playing the Honky Tonk Woman intro.
