One bass, one SF-2, two amps?
« on: November 20, 2004, 10:37:16 AM »
I recieved my SF-2 Superfilter today, and I've already found some nice 'extreme' settings and I hope to play round with it alot. At this moment I have got two amps, so I was wondering if it's possible to play my bass through two amps, one on channel A and the other on channel B, each to be 'tweaked' separately.

Maybe I just don't get it (hope to recieve the manual soon) but I just want to know how to use / connect the SF-2 in stereo...

Thanks alot,
Wilfred

Wilfred, though the SF-2 is playable without a pre-amp, he can't  Split sound. You 'll need a F1-x in crossover (or a preamp with a crossover added). and than the SF-2 and THAN 2 Power amps.

Heb je al een handleiding Wilfred??? Ik wil de mijne wel copi?ren hoor.

Groeten

Wilfred:

I have to respectfully disagree with Brother Paul TBO.  The SF-2 can easily be used with two amps.  In fact, I am sitting here with the manual schematics in front of me.  There are two ways:

1.  USING THE SF-2 AS A PRE-AMP:  Plug your instrument into the front of the SF-2.  Set it for stereo in back.  Run CH A OUT to one amp, and CH B OUT to the second amp.  (The pre-amp gain on the SF-2 can be set by an internal jumper to 0db, 10db, or 20db.  Coming from the factory it is set at 10db gain).

2.   USING ANOTHER PRE-AMP:  Plug your instrument into your pre-amp.  Run the output of the pre-amp into the back panel of the SF-2 at the CH A IN jack.  THe SF-2 should also be set on stereo.  Just as above, run CH A OUT  and CH B OUT to the two amps.

I don't know how this will work with bass, but when running a guitar with two amps, it helps to fatten up the sound by putting a very short delay on one of the amps.

Good luck,

Bill, tgo

Bil and Paul, thank you very much. I hope to recieve a manual soon from Alembic, but until then I'll manage just fine with the great help of this Club! I don't know how Mica, Ron and Susan feel about copying and/or digitalising the manual, hope to hear from them soon. Personally I think it'd be great if the manual was available digitally in the reference pages of the website. But as with travel a great deal of the fun is 'getting there' and I expect to have lots of fun ahead of me with this enigmatic device.
The tweaker in me is very delighted!

Wilfred; although the manual is helpful, you are right; the tweaking is fun and it's really the only way to get to your tone.
