Gee ...that's great!
Congrats!
Sounds like an upright or like a fretless guitar ...or something of its own league?

Nice looking instrument!  It would seem that playing it with the shoulder strap would be more difficult than with the stand.

Flax:

Looks pretty cool.  Do you also play with a bow?  I too have just gone back to my roots. I just bought the guitar off eBay that I wanted when I was about 10.  An Emenee Tiger Electric.  34 of rosewood colored plastic with a little battery powered amp.  In 4th grade my bandmates and I learned the words to Eve of Destruction and started saving up for Tiger guitars.  It only took about 40 years, but now I'm getting one!  Enjoy your new bass.

Jeff Flaxattack asked me to post the following for him.  Apparently he is having trouble with his computer and this site:

yes i used to play with a bow- although this one didnt come with one. will also look into getting the end pin as that tripod is a bit heavy.

to answer paul

much more upright than guitar. although the combo settings leaves a lot of maneuvering with the sounds- there are the usual bass-treble-volume
then there are 2 controls- 1-  pickup- either the bridge or emg's-adjustable 2- pizzicato or arco- neat control that is used based on which way the string is vibrating. arco is back and forth and pizzicato is up and down played on it for 3 hours last night and had a ton of fun.  could use some fret markers on the side. i contacted fretex and will look at those glow in the darks. my left hand was quite a bit out of range after all going from a 32 wolf to a 42 ns is a wee bit longer...lol
am really glad i bought it.....
one more on my wish list....stay tuned

Very cool! I heard Doug Wimbush play one of the NS uprights with Living Colour a few years ago, and the low end was just ridiculous.
But who is that guy, and what's with his shirt? Those are the questions I'm left with, LOL...

Very nice Jeff. I've been thinking about an electric upright for a while and the NS 5 string is very high on my list. Just have to find one second hand now - my new cabinets have wiped out the bank balance.

Nice bass!  I only mess with upright, but I do love playing it.

Enjoy.

I keep noticing this trend . . .

The NS basses spec a proprietary/OEM pickup system (EMG) with no piezos.

The category-busting Taylor T5 uses buried magnetic sensors in its pickup complement, Bob Taylor even commenting he was tickled to NOT use piezos and preferred magnetic pickups for that axe.

Martin and others are offering piezo+mic systems.

Is even the casual player getting as tired of that piezo bridge only tone as I've been for a long time?

Those NS uprights are just fabulous, would really like to see one of those NS/Bolin basses sometime.

Nice bass, flax.  I got an NS 4-string about a year and a half ago, and use it all the time, and love every minute.  It's almost as much fun as my Alembic.  Congrats, and enjoy!

One other thing.  After a few weeks of playing the NS, I noticed a lot of pain in my left thumb and across my wrist.  I thought about it, and realized that because there is no upper bout to get in the way, when I moved into the higher register, I was not moving into a thumb position, but was keeping my thumb behind the neck as I moved up - putting my left hand and wrist into a crimped position that pulled my tendons in ways that were truly unnatural.  I corrected and started using proper thumb positions again, and the pain abated.  Maybe reading this will spare you the same problem.
