Hey everyone!
« on: February 02, 2006, 05:37:01 PM »
So what have I missed in my time away???

Just an update on why I've been gone. Last May I got deathly ill and had my colon removed in emergency surgery. The good news is that it was removed before turning cancerous  I have had a total of 7 surgeries since June of 05 and have another one coming up within the month  I went from 210# to 145# and just got home from the hospital this week, again.

So, as you can imagine I haven't touched my Alembic in quite some time! Tomorrow night will be my first time in months and will be accomapnied by some much needed beer(also months since I've touched that too) and a bit of cognac to boot. So let's all get the bottles banging on the table and fill me in on what I've missed!!!

Paul:

Welcome back.  Boy, that's a helluva way to lose weight!  Next time let me know and I can send you a copy of the scarsdale diet. LOL   Seriously though, glad to see you back.  As my granfather always told me, health is the most important thing of all.  Without it, money, Alembics, whatever, means nothing.  Good luck on the upcoming procedure and keep on the path to recovery.  And get that Alembic back in your hands ASAP.  I suspect that Ron's elecronics emit a powerful healing aura!  I know playing my Electrum usually makes me feel better.

Bill, tgo

P.S.  I noticed you slipped beer into the first posting on this thread.  Dude, you haven't lost a thing.  nyuk, nyuk.

Since it will be raining tomorrow, I will be doing a few sit down tasks. One is to drive my truck, the battery dies while I was in the hospital. The other is to re-string the Alembic and take in as much food/protein/carbs in the day to allow me to have some beer without falling over!

I guess with the truck not starting I should be writing an country song, but my dog is okay so I don't have enough to work with;)

Paul,

That's one heck of an ordeal to go through.  A while back a very dear friend of mine went through a similar experience with a much less postive outcome.  Like Bill said, without our health we have nothing and everything else is meaningless by comparison.
I can't fully express my admiration of your courage and positve attitude, they can sure go a long way towards your recovery.  You have my sincerest wishes for a full recovery and a long and prosperous life.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Your friend and fellow Alembician,

Rami

Welcome back, Paul, and best of luck. A Custom Alembic Excel will surely get you through the tough times. Don't worry, it's like riding a bike.......
I guess with the truck not starting I should be writing a country song, but my dog is okay so I don't have enough to work with
A true classic! ROFL....
Best wishes and good health,
Chris

Okay, so you slipped in the beer... but please, let this be one thread where no one starts screaming for photos!

Nice to have you back, and with a positive attitude like yours, let's assume you'll stick around.

What have you missed? Well, we do have a surprising number of new members, and despite the inherent risk in that, this is still a remarkably friendly - and caring - place to hang out. We did have a rough spot or two, and sadly our friend danno got fed up and bid us adieu, but for the most part things are holding together.

...except for headstocks, where a couple were snapped off in recent weeks, and then of course there is dela, who is in the process of figuring out how to resurrect one of his many basses that were submerged by Katrina for a long spell.

But these are all petty things, compared to what you've been through. Thanks for letting us know, and we're here for you if we can help.
-Bob

Welcome back Paul.  Glad things seem to be getting better.

Look for an Email from me soon with some pix - the help and suggestions you made on the bass body I'm building were invaluable.  I'll finish spraying tomorrow and plan to set it aside for a long spell before I rub out the lacquer.  Suffice it to say that I've found more uses for a spindle sander than I would ever have guessed...

Keep on gettin' better man!

Paul (Elzie) - good to have you back, but promise you won't mention motor bikes. This thread already has beer and Alembics, no need for excesses here.

Welcome back Paul!  I think you need to write a blues tune lamenting how even though you just got out of the hospital, it's raining and your truck battery's dead, your dog is healthy and therefore you don't have enough misery in your life to write a blues tune.  Glad you're back among us and hope everything just gets better from here on out.

Do you have a favorite motorbike or beer?  Pictures of those will suffice...

John
