Question for the deadheads
« on: March 10, 2006, 08:16:42 AM »
There's always been alot said about the work Alembic did on Jerrys guitars and Phils basses but I don't think I've ever seen a mention of anything being done for Bobby. Anyone want to bring me up to speed - Jeff? Bill?

I read in the Alembic history (long story) that they did Weir's guitar too.

In fact I saw Bob and Ratdog in a video yesterday. Couldn't tell what kind of guitar he was playing though. Any one else know?

Lately Bobby's been playing an old Tele he got from his family and various Modulus Graphite guitars.

The guitar above is a custom Modulus G3FH, although he also plays/has played a custom Modulus Blacknife as well. Ck the link below for info on his current gear:

Graeme;

According to Susan in her official history, in 1969 Bob's guitars were Alembicized.

In an interview from 1981 Bob says that from about 1968 to '71 I used a Gibson ES-345.

This picture looks to be from that period.

I don't know, I'm just grasping at straws here.  It kinda looks like the guitar in that picture has been modded.

Just to add to the confusion, according to dozin.com Bob played a red ES-335 from '65 to '70.

For a while we had a Hard Rock Vault were in Central Florida with a bunch of guitars and clothing and such used by famous musicians.

There was a Grateful Dead section which had what the tour guide claimed was an Alembic guitar played by Bobby.  Don't know any more than that as it was right before I began educating myself about Alembics and such, and now the place has shut down.
