Look at the user manual for recommended settings, or check the Randall site.
At 300 watt, you would expect to see a at least two volume-related pots, one for the pre-amp (usually labeled Gain or Level) and one for the power amp (Master). If this is a guitar amp, you might have a third pot for Drive or something similar.
Keep the master low (perhaps 2 or 3) and adjust the pre-amp to get the sound right. Now you can turn up the master to the point where you have the volume you need. If you need to go as high as 8 on the master, then you should look at the speakers - impedance mismatch between amp and cab(s).
Or you might ask your bandmates - gently - to turn down their volume. No need to go deaf if you're at all interested in music.
If you're trying to get high levels of output with a high setting for the master volume, but a low setting for the pre-amp, then the amp won't like it - it might well result in the amp cutting out on you.
