hey has anybody tried these cabs? i was thinking of ordering a bl series 212 and 210 from him. check them out at drbasscabs.com

If you run a search on Dr. Bass, you'll find a few past threads where these cabs were mentioned, including some indepth reviews. I think at least three members of the board own Dr. Bass cabs and like them a lot.

Caution: I'm one of the guys who has recommended Dr Bass here and elsewhere. I have one of their 212's that I wouldn't part with for the world. However (sometimes there's a catch), I found them not particularly quick to deliver (i.e. 6 weeks promised delivery turned to 10 weeks) and just yesterday, I found the following post at the Dudepit: http://www.vintagebass.com/thedudepit/showthread.php?t=14453.

I'm telling you all that in the interest of full disclosure, as time is often the essence in getting equipment delivered. On the other hand, Marc (Dr Bass) is really knowlegeable and very helpful/flexible in working out a design that is exactly what you want (I suspect his willingness to customize may slow his overall production a bit). The good news is that the guy in the post above has his unused Dr Bass 212 airhead on Ebay right now (read his Ebay listing for why): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7407156626&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1. Even he says the cabinet rules. Might be a good way to save dinero, if the airhead design works for you.

Yes,I have a custom made 3-way 1000watt 2x12 and a 1x18 sub and they both rule. The midrange on the 2x12 will clean the wax out of your ears but one also has the ability to shut it off or attenuate it. Marc is a pleasure to work with and very knowledgable. I highly recommend his products.

Here are a couple more Dr Bass cabs, a 210 and 115. http://www.vintagebass.com/thedudepit/showthread.php?t=14832 The guy reports (plausibly) that they are custom made for light weight. Marc at Dr Bass could confirm that. At $300 each for what look like mint cabs, this could be a deal to grab. The guy's even willing to throw in a set of TI flats and a set of Roto Swing bass.

Hey Max,

What did you decide on those Dr. Bass Cabs? I'm a little late in seeing this thread, but I have owned Dr. Bass Cabs (2x12, 2x10) for quite a while now and I love them. I have owned quite a few high end cabs (SWR, Ampeg, etc.) & my personal preference has led me to Dr. Bass. Very sweet, punchy cabs, high-power handling, and dimension-wise, are less deep than the before-mentioned cabs, so they will fit in most trunks.

They have a nice smooth transition from low to high, and handle the low B lovely. I just received my 8-string, and so haven't had a chance to see what the low F# sounds like thru them, but I imagine I'll probably be adding an 18 Dr. Bass to my rig very soon.

I just purchased a couple of Dr. Bass cabinets recently (a 115 and a 112 with the 3 rack space airhead) about a week or so ago. So far, my experience with them has been great.

They sound great, look great, and seem to be built like rocks. And at a price significantly less than many cabinets that don't sound any better.

I did get them slightly used, so I did not have to experience the infamous wait time. But I have exchanged a couple of emails with Marc at Dr. Bass, and so far he seems pretty responsive and very willing to help. (By the way, nothing wrong with the cabs, he is just guiding me through rewiring the cabs to work with the biamped signal from my GK amp.)

At this point, I would highly recommend Dr. Bass.

Seems like there has been quite a bit of discussion here and elsewhere recently about Dr Bass related to folks selling Marc's cabs 2nd hand and a bit of complaining about delivery delays. It's good to hear some of the positives. Personally, I did not find the delay in delivering (one, but not the other) of my cabs all that frustrating. As much as I appreciate that people may react poorly to waiting (especially if not adequately warned) and may interpret this experience from an unfamiliar cab-maker as warranting a stay away alarm to others, I think this is unfortunate. What I think I'm getting from the various messages I've read are three things:

1. No one has complaints about Dr Bass cabs - quite the contrary - even those grumpy about one experience or another readily claim they like the cabs.
2. Wait times and manufacturer delays haven't been communicated well enough to prevent Dr Bass newbies from assuming the worst and getting stressed out.
3. By and large, it sounds like most people who've invested in Dr Bass cabs are pleased and would do so again.

I hope I have not misrepresented the views of anyone here or elsewhere. The above was my attempt to fairly assess the combined communications I've read. If anyone disagrees with me, I'd be happy to hear it.

8-string? Low F# string...?

Tell me about your 8-string, Mikey!!! Is it an Alembic? Tell me, tell me, tell me!!! (Please!)

I'm just curious, as -as far as I know- I own the only Alembic 8-string (non-octave) bass... but if I'm wrong, I'd like to see the other(s)!!!

I'd love to see pictures of you bass, if you're inclined, and to hear all about it. I love mine, it's the ultimate -but it goes from low B to high Bb.
