Rewards offered for Stolen Alembic(s) found...

Had this issue been addressed?

What would be a good reward if your bass was found and recovered by a good citizen?

Just thought I ask...

Peace and Love,

Actually I was wondering about this recently.  I am kind of surprised that stolen alembics are not recovered on a more regular basis.  I mean, they are kind of rare and ebay and craigslist seem to be popular avenues for selling Alembics so surely the stolen was should pop up more than they do.

I would think if the thief stole it for his/her own use at home or studio or if it was sold privately to someone who did not play in public it would be very difficult to find. I know many of us are very keen at detecting alembics and i guess we are all kind of in-house private detectives with our eyes and ears open for the stolen ones.

But as we've read many times on these threads, many others ( including bass players) have never heard of alembics so wouldn't recognise one if it was being sold to them from a dodgy seller.
It would be interesting what the recovery rate is for stolen alembics, and the recovery prospects of anyone caught stealing or returning Keavins no12.

I thought about this too when mine was stolen.

I did offer a reward, but never decided how much.

I did expect the bass to 'show up' as there aren't many Alembics in Ireland at all, but in all the time it was gone (18 months) I didn't hear a thing about an Alembic anywhere, and I looked!

In the end we found who stole it and that lead to its recovery.

I was very lucky, I know.  So was the guy who stole it as I never got my honds on him.

While the recovery prospects of any stolen items aren't very good, I would guess that they would be WAY better than the recovery prospects for anyone caught stealing Kevin's #12!

As for rewards, I don't really think they add any real incentive, unless they're huge. Not sure some random person would turn in a friend / acquaintence just for a reward (first hand experience as a victim of such a theft).

Obviously, any one of us that spots a stolen Alembic will report it even if there's no reward, as would any reputable music dealer. If you then choose to thank that person with a small token of your appreciation, that's nice and probably appropriate.

Just my opinion of course...

Lets just hope that none of us ever get into the situation like Rob and have our instruments stolen.

4 doors I could think of:

Door 1. The bass was stolen, and not recovered.

Door 2. The bass was stolen, but I have insurance.

Door 3. The bass was stolen, but I recovered it.

Door 4. The bass was stolen, but Insurance paid my loss claim, and years later, I just happened to eventually recovered my bass.
Door 4. The rich get's richer...

Keavin's #12 has a locater in it I believe...so the person would only have a short time in which to remain on this planet without a ligature or  whacking stick being involved.

As far as #4 goes above,  you were compensated and no longer own the bass in question, the insurance company owns it.

Keavin,

Would you please post the details of the device or link to the previous post please.
This thread has made me nervous.

Just 'cos I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching me.

I think I'll have to ignore these kind of threads.
