And I highly recommend all three.  I think the sound quality on View 1 is very good with a good balance between all the instruments.  The video quality is very good too; however, it's the feed that they send to the big screens at the concert, so there's a bit of psychedelic stuff at one point.  Brent is the keyboard player and is very good.  The whole band plays well, and Jerry is in pretty good form for this period.  1990.

I've read mixed reviews about the vault series, but I'm buying them along with the Downhill and New Year's discs in order to satiate my compulsive completist complex, LOL! They said the magic words: HALF PRICE!
 
Dead Ahead is decent...I had to have it as I was one of the lucky one's to catch that historic Radio City run in '80. As mentioned elsewhere, skip the Franken/Davis schtick as it is truly bad, LOL!
 
FWIW, even though it's not part of the sale, Festival Express is worth it's price just for the Dead's footage alone (and the rest is decent too). There's not much video documentation of Pig Pen around, and this is a chunk of what's available. Add Jerry and Bobby on acoustic (only seen elsewhere on Dead Ahead, to the best of my knowledge) as was de rigeur in those days, and we have a winner! LOL!
 
While I'm at it, the Classic Album Series DVD of the making of American Beauty and Working Man's Dead is awesome as well. Don't forget the Jerry at the Shoreline Ampitheatre (filling in for a Dead date that was cancelled due to the death of Brent) DVD.

IMHO, Festival Express is one of the finest DVDs out there from the era.  The drunken jam on the train with Janice, Rick Danko, Jerry and various others is worth the price of admission alone.  A MUST have, even at full price.  In spite of the fact that the kids in Canada rioting because of the outrageously high ticket price of $16 makes me feel old!  LOL
 
FWIW, I enjoyed the Franken & Davis routines when they ran them out in S.F., especially the Jerry's Kids bit.  The auction of Jerry's finger was a bit gross, but hey, gross can be funny.  I haven't seen this particular DVD yet, but if it's the same bits, I'd say it's worth checking it out and making your own assessment.
 
Another favorite moment is the nitrous oxide scene in the Dead movie.  Very imaginative and effective from the days before computer graphics took over special effects.
 
And, of course, in all of these discs, there is the music!

I have Downhill and Buffalo.
 
Downhill:  Culled from the 3-night Alpine '89 run, roughly simulating a single concert.  They could have done a much better job choosing songs: who decided Good Times Roll as an opener over the killer Bucket from the third night - or Built to Last rather than Althea?!?  Highlights, though, are an excellent Deal and China Cat>Rider
 
Buffalo:  Enjoyable all the way through.  Highlights for me were Cold Rain & Snow and Jerry & Brent trading licks off each other in Not Fade Away.  
 
I used to have View I; thought the first set was lacklustre and occasionally sloppy, but the second set had some fine moments.
 
I rented View II from the library, and enjoyed it right through, particularly the jammed-out Maggie's Farm and of course, a Dark Star.
