Anyone know how these sound with an alembic guitar?
I emailed them and this i what they said...

Hi Rob,
Any info you can give me regarding compatibility with an alembic guitar, specifically a further model. I am wondering if the active electronics of the further would be a whole different game. Also any info on how the unit sounds working with a Mesa Boogie Mark IV. Thanks for your help.

Hi Jon,

I personally do not have any experience with alembic guitars.  The active electronics should not be a problem with the Ethos as long as they don't put extreme voltages eg >2-3 volts.  I have used other active electronics that work fine with the Ethos and because they have a low source impedance they are quieter as well.  The Mesa Boogie tone stack voicing is very compatible with the Ethos.  If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Best Regards,

Rob

Jon:

I've never heard of this pedal before, so I am very interested in your opinion if you pick one up.  One question I have is whether this thing is solid state or tube?  I couldn't find the answer with an admittedly quick review of their website.

it appears to get stellar reviews  http://www.customtonesinc.com/Ethos_Overdrive_Reviews.html  and in looking over thieir web site pretty thoroughly i see no mention of tubes but then i don't see mention of solid state either

Having read the FAQ I would say it is all solid state. They claim to draw 35mA at 9V with a battery. A tube would draw more current than specified.
