The Canadian Maritimes (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia for our Canada-challenged readers, across the border from Maine) is one of my favorite places, in NON-snow months. Of course, Maine and New Brunswick and Nova Scotia frame the Bay of Fundy: Home of the highest difference in low and high tide daily (30 ft!) and the best LOBSTER on this side of the planet. When you go to Kroger or Safway, those lobster most likely came from these waters. The GREAT thing is when you're in the Maritimes, it's CHEAP as there's no overnight flight involved. Cheap as catfish here in The South. Wonderful people (Canada is a CIVILIZED country), terrific yet unimposing scenery, great food. Not the bargain it once was as the Canadian dollar is almost even with US tender, but I cannot urge all of you who've never been to Canada: GO!!
I've had some big things go down which have had to come before the KLR, but the day is coming. This is the genius of this little bike: Single cylinder, chain, carburetor, easy to maintain, good mileage with a BIG gas tank, easily keeps up with freeway traffic, and goes offroad as long as you don't think you're Travis Pastrana.
MOTORCYCLIST named BMWs big GS as DualSport of the Year. Huh? You could buy THREE KLRs for what this 900lb Panzer runs, just dripping with mechanical complexity. And you better be an NFL lineman if you try to muscle it down a dirt road or muddy trail.
These pictures are EXACTLY the daydream in the back of my mind. Thanks for thinking of me and giving me something to keep that daydream going . . and one day I'll send you my photos!
