Can it be that 11 years have passed since I was woken up early in the morning by a phone call from an ex-girlfriend with the sad news that Jerry Garcia had passed on to the great jam in the sky? It was Wednesday, August 9th, just like today. Eleven years, and the man and his music still have a profound effect on my life and that of many others. He wasn't merely a guitar player, but he eschewed the guitar god label. Just an immensely talented and unique man who drew ultimate pleasure from making music, and seldom let the distractions of day-to-day life stand in his way. Today also happens to be my wife's birthday. The family will go out to dinner tonight. We'll have a wonderful time, and in the midst of the celebration, I will pause a moment to hoist one for Jerry. Jam on my friend, wherever you are.

Jerry didn't understand in himself I don't think, but he had this amazing quality of bringing dignity to things wherever he went. I thought about this for many, many years and I don't know any better way to describe it as that, but he had an amazing quality of just bringing a lot of dignity out of people when he was there. It never hurt things at all. Jerry was a real, Jerry was a very lofty patron of the arts. He really helped a lot of people. There's probably 250 businesses in the Bay Area that exists today because of Jerry Garcia.

My Parents remember where they were when President Kennedy was taken.

I remember where I was when my lifelong bud called from KY to tell me of Jerry's passing.

As he is realting this, it comes over the news at WXRT in Chicago. Ugh, and the norms just didn't understand.

Some say the last show was terrible. If it's one thing the GD taught me, is you have to wait and weed through to get the the golden nuggets. There are a few at that show.

Miss you, but will never forget you Jerry. After all, you wanted me to have a Further!

Roger, what was the date of the last show? I have a soundboard recording from July 9th, 1995. If that was it, then the some who say it is terrible are wrong. It is a phenomenal show.

Anyway, I love Jerry like I love my parents. His music was always there for me to listen to. It made me relax and helped me grow up. These words only fail to describe how I feel about Jerry and the Dead.

So Many Roads and Black Muddy River from that show are the best recordings. I think that this show is so beautiful. A reflection of Jerry.
