Dread not the Dreadnought
« on: September 25, 2006, 11:15:19 AM »
To get in touch with my acoustic side I recently picked up this used Santa Cruz, Tony Rice model.   It sounds just gorgeous - very balanced tone and perfectly articulate. It plays as smooth as silk. It sounds rich when fingerpicking and still retains clarity when you dig in with a flat pick.  Rosewood back and sides, German spruce top, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard. The light bracing and oversized sound hole make this a really punchy guitar.  I'm in Bluegrass Heaven!  Peace Tom

Santa Cruz's are myteeefine geetars!  Here in Nashville, acoustics are the big medicine, and primo ones change hands here the way archtops change hands other places.  A Tony Rice is a formidable box, made by a great builder with input from a world class guitarist.  Despite Eric's latter day relationship with CF Martin, before that, he was transfixed by one of these!

Congratulations;  THAT's one of those guitars you NEVER sell.

Thanks Joey. Definitely a keeper - and it's going to make my Martin pretty lonely.

Peace,
Tom
