Spalted Cocobolo!

Given that cocobolo is Alembic's house wood, I'd love to see the factory offer it in a spalted version. Now I don't care much for the spalted stuff I've seen of other woods, but check out the top on this bass: LEJ 6 string Spalted Cocobola. http://www.thelowend.net/thelowend/index.htm

Looks like sapwood to me, not spalting. Nice enough whatever it's called ...

I'm with Adriaan.  The lighter colored section is sapwood.  Beautiful chunk of wood though.

i third that motion.. beautiful, but sapwood. it is interesting that the non-sapwood part has an almost ziricotian (yes i made that word up) feel to it as far as grain overlapping and having dark outlines on certain sections.

I got to play a Lake Placid blue 4 string at a guitar show in Charlotte. These basses are fantastic and sound great. That pre amp is very sensitive, smooth, growly and it's not clacky sounding like some active pre's are. I played through one of their Low End bass pre-amps( they have a desk top and rackmount versions), which has minimal controls and sounds great. Go to the link above for their web site and look for them under amplifiers. Good stuff!

I like that a lot.

I appear to be in a 'zircotian'  frame of mind.

You are most 'zircotian', sir!

 She protested with 'zircotian' emphasis!

Tom:

Why do you think the piece from Hawaii is spalted?

He purchased the wood from www.exoticwoodbrokers.com , and I am still tempted to buy some for my next project.

Why would you assume the wood comes from Hawaii just because he lives there?  I live in FL and Amboyna comes from Asia.  Did you think I have a tree out back?   ;)

I meant the piece that is currently in Hawaii, not that the tree grew there.  It certainly might just be there on vacation.  (I wish I was).
