Mike, I'm pretty sure you meant to say take exception, but if you really feel acceptance, then I congratulate you on your own freedom of thought (please understand that I mean that in a gentle, humorous way).
I know I should just let this drop, but since you got at least one amen so far, and I won't be surprised if there are more, I kind of feel like offering a little support to Adriaan here.
Creationism is faith, not science, and to confuse the two - or worse yet, actually teach it as science - is something that I personally find inflammatory, and am absolutely convinced is intellectually stunting.
Pretty much by definition, faith is something not even intended to be supported by the scientific method. The fact that some, probably many, respected scientists also happen to have some religious beliefs doesn't change that. People certainly have the right, and will undoubtedly continue, to believe in just about anything they choose, even in ways that are inconsistent. This doesn't necessarily make them stupid, or wrong; nor does it prove them right.
Perhaps Adriaan didn't really need to make that particular point here, but then again as far as I'm concerned this entire thread isn't very well suited to this forum, and I happen to appreciate his effort to cut it short.
Though it was nice to see that cartoon again...
