not sure how many Dylan fans are here ... To me, he is like an old friend and Im not that old....

Right now Not Dark Yet is playing and it is soooo beautiful.
Gimme some of your favorite Dylan Songs and Lyrics

Shadows are falling and I've been here all day
It's too hot to sleep time is running away
Feel like my soul has turned into steel
I've still got the scars that the sun didn't heal
There's not even room enough to be anywhere
It's not dark yet, but it's getting there

Well my sense of humanity has gone down the drain
Behind every beautiful thing there's been some kind of pain
She wrote me a letter and she wrote it so kind
She put down in writing what was in her mind
I just don't see why I should even care
It's not dark yet, but it's getting there

Well, I've been to London and I've been to gay Paree
I've followed the river and I got to the sea
I've been down on the bottom of a world full of lies
I ain't looking for nothing in anyone's eyes
Sometimes my burden seems more than I can bear
It's not dark yet, but it's getting there

I was born here and I'll die here against my will
I know it looks like I'm moving, but I'm standing still
Every nerve in my body is so vacant and numb
I can't even remember what it was I came here to get away from
Don't even hear a murmur of a prayer
It's not dark yet, but it's getting there.

You Belong To Me

See The Pyramids
Along the Nile
Watch the sun rise
On a tropic isle
Just remember darling
All the while
You belong to me...

See the market place
In old Algiers
Send me photographs
And souvenirs
Just remember
'Til your dream appears
You belong to me....

I'll be so alone
Without you
Maybe
You'll be lonesome, too
Maybe
You'll be lonesome too
And blue

Fly the ocean
In a silver plane
See the jungle
When its wet with rains
Just remember
Till you're home again
Or until I come home to you
You belong to me...

My all-time favorite rhyming couplet in rock 'n roll is the bridge from Masterpiece (which, for some inexplicable reason, the Dead always left out when they covered the song)

Sailing 'round the world in a dirty gondola,
Oh, to be back in the land of coca-cola

Only Dylan could get away with that and make it work.  My other favorite Dylan lyrics?  I don't think the server has enough memory for the whole list!

He covered so much ground
Last one for now
a verse from Changing of the Guards

Gentlemen, he said,
I don't need your organization, I've shined your shoes,
I've moved your mountains and marked your cards
But Eden is burning, either brace yourself for elimination
Or else your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards.

While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have
To stand naked.

The only problem with Dylan is not where to start,  but, how do you finish? My band has played Not Dark Yet many times, the challange is to leave all that space alone. Nashville Skyline will always be one of my favorites.

Can you tell me where you're headin',
Lincoln County Road, or Armageddon...?

or, of course,

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind...

I can't feel you anymore, I can't even touch the books you've read
Every time I crawl past your door, I been wishin' I was somebody else instead.
Down the highway, down the tracks, down the road to ecstasy,
I followed you beneath the stars, hounded by your memory
And all your ragin' glory.

Hmmmmmm. Difficult decision, it would have to be pretty much anything he wrote. His best in my opinion would be I Shall Be Released, Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You, Don't Think Twice It's Alright, I'll be Your Baby Tonight, and Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues.

Also, The Girl From North Country with Johnny Cash

Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again had been my #1 for a long time

However I just recently saw Bobby and Ratdog perform Hard Rain's Gonna Fall and that has, for the time being, become the fave.  Before that I had not ever heard of it.
The only thing that stays the same is change.
