Bromberg & Rowan & Rice, Oh my!
« on: January 12, 2007, 10:40:22 PM »
I saw David Bromberg last night with Peter Rowan and Tony Rice (with a mandolinist and stand up bassist) opening.  HOLY S**T can these guys play!  If they come to a stage near you I STRONGLY recommend that you beg, borrow, or steal a ticket.  You will not be disappointed.

Unless they've changed the lineup since I saw Rowen & Rice 2 years ago, the mandolinist is Billy Bright and the bassist is his wife Briann.  They were good enough that their names should be out there (she & Rice did a Summertime that was just jaw-dropping.)  I'm with Bill - go see them if you can!  (And Bromberg, too?  Wow!)

The mandolin chair (and backup vocals) was held by a beautiful young woman from New Mexico named Sharon Gilchrist.  Upright bass (& backup vocals) was handled by Bryn Davies.  Is she Tony's wife?  If so it was in the spirit of the evening as Bromberg's wife also performed, first in the opening act The Angels with two other female singers and an acoutic backing band with David on guitar, the she led the female chorus on the last few songs of Bromberg's set, including the always fun Testify About My Love which grew to 8 singers, including Linda Ronstadt.  What a show!

Now that I see your spelling, I must correct myself - the young lady I saw on bass was Bryn, not Briann, Bright. Given the uncommonness of the name, I'm betting it's the same one. The changed last name might help explain the new mando player, no?
