We had our 45th annual Irish Heritage Celebration in Erin, Tenn., today and after the big parade through town we were treated to about an hour of kickin' rock from the U.S. Navy ROCK Band based in Millington, TN. They were absolutely awesome! The bass player was playing a 5-string Tobias with a small SWR running through their very nice PA. Wow! Vocals were incredible! Horn section superb! Rhythm section dynOmite! Drums and keys, all top drawer. The guitar player was smooth as silk and the sound guy was a real Pro. I just can't say enough good things about these enthusiastic and talented young people!

I'm sure they sound awesome and I'm all for anybody rockin' out, but visually there's something about this picture that is just too weird for me. Kind of like watching a bunch of hippies in a pro-Bush march!

Sounds/looks similar to when I saw the Air Force Band of the Rockies with my wife and kids at their annual concert in Loveland, Co. It was an excellent show. Having grown up as a brat I was surprised at the quality of musicians and vocalists since this is not something you would see on base.

Dave, I don't know what kind of pedalboard the guitar player was playing through. But he was really, really smooth and was likely the leader (or ranking officer) in that he was definitely in charge. I think he was playing a PRS or it may have been a Schecter. What really got my attention was that they were warming up with Steeley Dan's 'Peg'.

We needed a 'warm' celebration of Spring in that our area of the country has lost a whole lot of jobs in recent years, that have not been replaced, and they weren't that good a jobs to start with. It was a special feeling to see all of the little kids, about 8 years old and younger, out in front of the band dancing their little hearts out.

We live in a pretty poor part of the country, monetarily speaking, but we make up for it in many other ways. Tennessee may be a red state but our area of Northwestern Middle Tennessee is as Blue as any part of the country. Oh, and on St. Patty's day we are all quite Green.

Dave,
The pedalboard looks a bit like a Digitech GNX4 to me. I used to use a BNX3, obviously the bass version. Too many sounds that you wouldn't ever use, but a very nice Chorus and some great synth bass sounds.

All of the players had on some type of overcoat that each one took off (except the keyboardist) as the day got warmer. Perhaps the keyboard player was the ranking officer. The guitar player, though, was clearly the leader of the band. (Y'all know how guitar players are, lol)...!
