Author Topic: Just got back from pedal HELL!!! (Read 208 times)

Wow!!!

I have 13 pedals on my board. All connections are individually cut Planet Waves cables. The thing looks like a map of the LA Expressway! This morning I re-routed a bunch of them and then spent the better part of this evening trying to figure out which connection was bad when the damn thing didn't work. I'm still on Pete Cornish's waiting list, though I don't know that I'll ever feel right about that financial committment. I've not yet come across anyone who does quite what he does, but if you guys have, let me know. If not, and you know someone who's interested in starting up that kind of business, I'll be the first customer. It's a niche that needs to be filled...someone who can wire the guts of all your pedals and then entomb the whole thing in a nice wood box with pretty buttons and labels. After all, there's gotta be a middle ground between slapping pedals together yourself on a board and the $10-15,000 Pete Cornish is going to charge (pedals NOT included!)

I feel your pain. I've been there trying to figure out which George L connector isn't working. aaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!

It's nearly 2AM Chicago time and I've finally got it all working after re-routing a couple more. I was THIS close to going back to the POD XT Live!!!

Try Bob Bradshaw @ CAE (Custom Audio Electronics)...he's the American version of Pete Cornish. He was the de rigeur rack systems guy when HUGE guitar racks were all the rage in the late 80's/early 90's (think EVH...the American one, LOL!).

I too badly want a Cornish pedalboard, but the price of admission means this civil servant needs to hit the lottery or get a third job. I also didn't realize that the pedals are NOT included!!! Wow! Does PC have a big a** or what? LOL!

EVH ... the American one

Both EVH-s are of Dutch descent. I remember interviews where Eddie was reported to speak a word or two of Dutch.

If I remember right Eddie was born in The Netherlands and came to the US as a child.

Understood. I just wanted to (humorously?) differentiate between Eddie and Edwin van Huik. Until I became a member of this forum, I had no idea there was another EVH, LOL! And yes, I do realize Eddie is also Dutch, LOL! At least I don't think Edwin had a Bob Bradshaw rack system (as well) in the '80's, although I could be wrong.

I checked out the CAE website. Seems that without rackmount equipment all he really does is daisychain your effects into a cleaner version of the pedalboard you might already have. PC takes individual pedals to a whole different level.

Actually, the Van Halen brothers are half-Dutch and half-Indonesian. I only found this out recently - would've been nice to know as a kid - being half-Asian myself, half-Asian role models in rock are far and few between (the only ones that come to mind are Jake E. Lee who played with Ozzy and Carlos Cavazo who played with Quiet Riot - Sean Lennon was still a little kid at that point).

Interestingly, BOSS made a programmable board to fit their range of pedals back in the 80's. With the demand for this sort of thing (there's 'pedal' guys and there's 'rack-mount' guys) and the general indifference to using MIDI to call up patches (I wouldn't worry myself with all that either), I wonder why they've never revisited and updated that rig. I see them very occasionally in the bowels of EBay, usually very tired. Would seem like a no-brainer, as they've stayed with their general size and shape all these years along.

Re: PEDALS, Check out digital music corp. They had a relay switcher and can do custom work. There is also a company called Sound Sculpture (http://www.soundsculpture.com/products/switchblade.htm) that makes a more sophisticated version of what I 'used to use' ( My needs are far simpler now - I used to use a couple of AKAI MB76s, which are midi controllable 7 in 6out matrix mixers, so I could route pedals or rack effects in series/parallel or in any combination... and I used a DMC ground control)

Also, you can ppick up the AKAIs when you can find them. They are easy to use even if they only have 32 midi patches.
