This is my second time going and this year's show didn't disappoint. It was a dog just like last year! What are some of the good shows?

Jonathan, I know what you mean about guitar shows. They tend to be wonderful if you like Strats, LPs, Teles, SGs, & 335s. Anything ungibson or unfender is seriously underrepresented. The one saving grace is that when you do occasionaly run into something interesting off the beaten path, you can often pick it up at a bargain price as the seller really doesn't know much about it and the other buyers aren't interested in it. The experience of walking through the show with money in my pocket that I'm ready, willing, and able to spend, and finding NOTHING to spend it on is indeed frustrating, but, alas, par for the course.

Guys, try being an Alembic loving bass player and going to a guitar show. For me, it's like going to a candy store and finding only licorice. I know somebody likes the stuff, it just ain't me! LOL

Bill,

I hear you about the Fenders especially. There were hundreds of Strats and Tele's...and a great selection - vintage, new, relic, custom shop, you name it. I'm just not interested. Actually a very poor selection of Gibsons. I'm casually looking for an R9 and there wasn't a single one. There were some nice PRS's, but I've got one and need another like I need a hole in the head. A bunch of acoustics and even more crap. That's about it. Have to admit, though, the feeling of walking through with money, looking to buy and not finding anything is almost just as much of a relief as a disappointment!

I expect the shows here in the Ibanez capitol of the SE to be lame but I would have thought a large market like Chicago would be better.

I have attend a couple of shows recently, Chicago & Arlington, TX and both were very disappointing. The Arlington show had lots of great guitars but was so over priced it was laughable. Chicago is even worse; the same dealers bring the same guitars for the last 3 or 4 years, take the hint guys, you are way over priced! It is fun to go and laugh at the dealers, they are very amusing. Guitar shows used to be for musicians, now they are for investors.

When I was a young gear head I enjoyed shows much more because my dreams were big and the collection small. Now after so many years of working hard to get great gear, not much publicly available phases me. I guess many of us here are spoiled by the stuff of dreams we already play from Santa Rosa. It's also a bit funny how much mass produced guitars are going for these days. Thousands for bolt-ons seems too much for the craftsmenship involved. May you all find that pawnshop prize in the near future.

The same guy as last year had his overpriced Shorthorn Supreme and tobacco-burst Deluxe. No Moonstones. Since we last corresponded, I've become the proud owner of a '78 maple Mock Deluxe, an '81 Koa Mock Supreme and a '79 Koa Mock Deluxe that is currently being refinished by the master himself - Neal Moser.
