Hi all,

Thought i would post this message HERE, hoping that someone can help me.
Currently i have a Pre- and Poweramp (Trace Elliot), and recently i bought a TC Electronic G-Major effects processor. Seller told me that i could connect this with BOTH amps but with no result.
Perhaps i'm doing something wrong?? Is there anyone among you who can help me with this (pics are available to give you an idea about the setup AND how to connect things properly, but will NOT post 'em here).

I think you'd only want to connect the processor to the preamp. I don't know if your pre has an effects loop or not, but if it does, I'd try to run the processor there or directly into the input of the pre before I did anything else.

Are you saying that you tried to run the G-Major into the preamp and poweramp simultaneously?

B/P, unless this is some particularly Trace oddity as far as inputs/outputs, it would hook it one of two ways. Either . . . the preamp would have an effects loop, a pair of jacks marked 'in/out' or 'send/return'. So you run through the GForce like this

a) preamp 'out' or 'send' jack cable to the 'input' of the GForce, then 'output' of the GForce back to the the 'in' or 'return' jack of the preamp. Then cable out of the preamp 'output' jack to the 'input' jack of the power amp.

b) Come out of the 'output' of the preamp into the 'input' of the GForce. Then out of the 'send' or 'output' of the GForce and into the power amp.

If all else fails, the GForce can work in-line like a pedal: Bass directly into the GForce into the preamp.

You may or may not have issues with 1/4 and XLR cables. I couldn't find much Trace info to see the back panels, but I do remember they were AWFULLY fond of XLR connections. Balanced or unbalanced connections are a moot point with 12 or 18 cable lengths, so I wouldn't worry too much about that as long as whatever you use is good quality. You may need cables XLR via 1/4 if the matchups I indicated present that sort of situation.

Oh yeah, you CAN'T connect/operate the GForce in both of them at the same time! He probably meant the connection setup I mentioned second, putting the GForce BETWEEN the preamp and the power amp.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, there are complete instructions about connecting up at the (no suprise here) TC Electronics website:

Now, this particular unit is actually quite flexible which leads to some complexity in setups. The big oddities are that it can take balanced signals on 1/4 jacks (but can use regular unbalanced guitar cords too) and, like many of the more sophisticated processors, is geared toward providing stereo output signals. If you don't have two amps and speaker sets, then you can't use the true stereo features.

In most cases, you will probably want to run the GForce in the preamp effects loop if your rig is mono.

If you run it between the preamp and poweramp there are two issues that will come up. The first one is that you will probably need to get used to using the GForce output level knob to control your overall rig output instead of the preamp gain knob. The second one is that line-level signals are usually lower in level than preamp outs to the power amp, so you may have problems driving your power amp to full output. You won't have these problems if you can run in the effects loop.

@dfung60: tried to contact TC Electronic, but without success unfortunately.
I do not have two amps, so the stereo mode is out of the question (for the time being).
