Caught the first half last night b/c I've always liked Heart. Normally I can't stand the tributes to the honorees as the songs more often than not get butchered beyond the point of tolerance. But whoever this Gretchen Wilson is did the most amazing version of Barracuda! The energy and vocal range was pure 70's Ann Wilson. And my hats off to the Wilson sisters, too. Ann can still hit every note flawlessly and little sister Nancy seems to get even sexier with age.

I didn't see the show but I've heard plenty of Gretchen Wilson's stuff and you're right, she can sing.

I've had a crush on Nancy since high school.

I didn't see the VH1 show either but I did see Heart as the openers for Kansas. They were great and like Olie I've always had a thing for Nancy.

Never heard of Gretchen Wilson?!?!  She is not one of the lost Wilson sisters.  She is a country artist that can more than stand on her own.  She is part of the Muzik Mafia with Big and Rich, Cowboy Troy, etc...  She is the hot ticket in female vocalists in country right now.  I think she has only 3 albums so far, but every one went to the top.  Check her out when you can.  Good stuff!  Listen to Homewrecker  very rockish, and you will recognize the opening riff.  If you have ever played in a cover band, it is the hook from Sweet Home Alabama coming out of the guitar solo.

That was actually a pretty good show.  Usually I find the made for TV productions fairly unsatisfying but that one was good.  I'm not sure, but an old video clip of Genesis showed a 1/2 second shot of a bass with a crown headstock that looked a lot like an Alembic.

I finallly got to see this and was STUNNED at GW's letter-perfect cover of 'Barracuda'.  I'm a huge Heart fan, and am so tickled to see that Nancy has lost none of those great big pipes.

The ZZ stuff was fun; I used to see them in beer joints in Texas before they got signed.

I enjoyed the Genesis segment, even though they didn't play tunes I like, but it was cool.

Mike Rutherford displaying his new Yamaha Customshop double neck.

I'm going to see genesis later this month and I'm really looking forward to it. Because if Rutherford is playing on a doubleneck again then that must mean that a few cool songs which NEED a double neck will have re-entered the set list. Songs like Cinema show or perhaps even Supper's ready

Sorry to say, I doubt they'll do any of that stuff. I think when Pete bowed out those ideas went out the window. I hope I'm wrong and they play some of the great old stuff for you.

My friend JT, who played on Gretchen's stuff, was telling me about this unbelieveable talent well before anybody knew who she was, and that it was just a matter of time before she got a deal.  While I don't care for the genre or subject matter of her material, I agree she does have a serious set of pipes!
