August seems to be a bad month for Yankee greats.  The Mic died on August 13, 1995, just 4 days following Jerry Garcia's passing.  Now the Scooter on August 14th.  I grew up listening to Rizzuto.  I'll never forget the classic Rizzuto call:
Holy Cow!  What a hit, he really got into this one.  It's going, going ..... it's ......  caught at the warning track!

Yup, very sad indeed. Growing up in a Yankees house in suburban Joisey, Scooter's Yanks play-by-play was a rite of passage. He outlived both of my Italian grandparents who loved him, so I imagine they'll have plenty to say to one another beyond the pearly gates.

FWIW, despite cringing to this day everytime I hear anything off of Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell (in no small part due to extreme overplay by radio and friends in the summer of '77), the best part of Paradise By The Dashboard Light is The Scooter's commentary juxtaposed over the squeals of teenage lust, LOL!

Kevin:

Thanks for the memory.  I'd totally forgotten about the Scooter's appearance in Paradise.  As Phil would say, What a Huckleberry!

Yet another Kasim Sultan reference this week!  He played bass on Meat's first album, Bat Out Of Hell, along with the rest of Utopia.  That song has some seriously nice bass playing..

I had no clue who Scooter was, but always considered the play-by-play on Dashboard to be the quintessential sports delivery.
