Hi All,

Anyone have any suggestions for some accessable classical pieces for bass (electric) ?

JS Bach For Electric Bass by J. Des Pres. Has about 12 cello suites and etudes in there. Good fingerboard workout. I got mine from Amazon.

Somewhere -here on this very site- there was a similar thread, and it had a link to a really cool place online that has FREE SHEET MUSIC of stuff that's in the public domain.

I don't have the time to look now, but if you do a search, you can find it. Search for Bach.

I found it, and downloaded all 6 of his solo Cello suites. They're perfect for 6-string bass -same range, just played an octave lower. I'm currently working on the first prelude of suite #1, and have almost finished it. Good stuff.

And there is PLENTY more stuff there. You can seach by composer and/or instrument. If I have time later, I'll try to find the link, but again, you can probably do it with the search function.

I recall it took me a couple of minutes of messing around to figure out how to access what I wanted... I couldn't/didn't get it right off the bat, but it didn't take too long. Now I have all 6 suites in the computer, and I printed out the first one. And there's a lot of cool stuff there.

That Bach for Bass book is a classic. I keep wanting to buy it and not doing it, but I've only heard rave reviews.

I highly recommend it. My greatest musical satisfaction (so far) has been learning every piece in that book. There are 10. Makes for a great solo concert.

Buy it already! If I can learn it, ANYBODY can!

Bob, as far as providing an explaination... I can't...

I went to the site via the link another member provided, and couldn't readily access the info I was looking for. I just kept trying various things until I eventually got the music... but I couldn't explain what I did for a million dollars. I just kept experimenting until I got results.

I did it a few weeks ago, and only vaguely recall the details. I think it involves selecting the composer and the instrument... although I recall having several problems, and having to try multiple times before I eventually was able to access and successfully download the cello suites.

It seemed easiest to get to things by selecting an instrument from the right side to get to pieces for that instrument. From there, it isn't so hard to get to actual music. Of course, everything is compressed...
