I know this may be the wrong place to talk about picks, since y'all are mostly bassists, but I switch between pick and fingers depending on what kind of sound I'm after, so...

Has anyone else tried using the custom pick generator at Steve Clayton, or anywhere else, for that matter?

I have used them a couple of times, most recently for these...

This is my absolute favorite shape, since it's right no matter which way you grab it, and it resists twisting better than anything else I've used.
Since no music stores carry these around here, I went looking for a place to get them in bulk, and discovered that the custom printing is really pretty affordable.

So, anybody else got any custom pick pics to share?

of course!
Below plse find my custom pic that I use with our WHO tribute band WHO ARE YOU.
As I am playing mainly with my fingers I only use the pic seldom but there are of course songs of the Who and JE where I have to use a pic.
Not the best quality, but it was a first try.
What do you think?

I'm a bassist and I use a pick more than my fingers, but no custom picks I'm afraid....great idea though!

Interesting thread!

One of my favorite picks is made out of bone (not sure what kind of bone) - I don't use it that often, but it gives a really full sound. Here's a picture, next to a Wedgie rubber pick and Apple mouse:

Oliver, that is totally cool... The Quiet One, huh? Not your (or JE's) stage volume, I assume?

Harry, I've never seen a rubber pick. How thick/stiff is the bone one? Looks like that's the two extreme possibilities, there.

The wedgie rubber picks come in a variety of guages. Some of them are too soft for me - the one I use is actually pretty stiff. I tried using felt picks, but must have lived in some humid places, because they would get all soft and almost squishy! I only use the rubber pick every now and again.

The bone pick is pretty thick, and very hard. So hard, in fact, that I don't like to use it too much because I feel like I might break the strings! But it sounds totally different than a plastic pick. I bought it in Japan - I think it was imported from France. They had real tortoiseshell, stone, and different kinds of wood ones too. I bet the tortoiseshell ones wouldn't be legal in the US?

Kind of off-topic, but there's a plastics museum in Leominster, Massachusetts that had some exhibits of tortoiseshell stuff like combs - I knew the term tortoiseshell from plastic stuff like picks and pickguards, so it was interesting to see stuff really made from tortoiseshells.
