Dixie Dregs - Leprechaun Promenade
« on: January 16, 2009, 01:02:44 PM »
I've seen the Dregs a few times, but never this version of the band. Thought it was worth sharing with the gang. From 1978 enjoy!

Color version of same song, although I prefer the black and white posting.

The color doesn't seem to be up anymore, but the black and white is wonderful!

One of my favorites from them- Steve Morse lets it rip on this song.

I love that stuff!

I saw them several times in the seventies when they would come to the Town Hall bar in Chapel Hill.  In the video you can see them grinning at each other, and that's the way they always were when I saw them.  And that energy, that joyous onstage communication was shared with the audience as well.  For us, it was always a joyous experience to see the Dixie Dregs.

Man, I love those guys. I've seen the Dregs more times than any band I ever loved. The first time I saw them was the summer of 1977. They played for free in the parking lot of a Peaches record store as part of the celebration of their recent opening. We watched the show perched on top of a friend's Monte Carlo. After the show, Rod Morgenstein was wondering around and came over and talked with us. He mentioned that the reason they started late was due to Alan Sloan having car problems! And a year later, Montreaux! Amazing!

I remember seeing them in 1980 and they were wonderful and pretty wild. The crowd was more like a southern rock crowd than a jazz/fusion crowd, lots of bikers and everyone was way into it. At the beginning of the Bash, Andy smashed a Heineken off his head! His Alembic was on sale at Cambridge Music for a while in the early 90s. I wish I could have afforded it!

I've also seen Steve with his band and although I like his music it feels more predictable than what he wrote with the Dregs. I don't know if that makes any sense, both are great bands, but I prefer listening to the Dregs.
