now for something completely different.......
i like many amongst the group have a ton of remotes
i had a marantz universal for my av receiver- that i never really used to its max because of making sure which buttons did what for about 10 yrs old that i decided to test it aquatically when my glass of water fell on it. fried it. looked on ebay for a replacement and decided the price tag was a bit high.
so i looked around the internet and discovered logitech's harmony universal remote 550 for $60 bucks incl shipping at
www.pcrichard.com I am totally blown away- logitech has compiled app 5000 remote codes for this unit.
i plugged the remote into my computer via usb and started downloading codes. After a while i got a little confused since the unit lets you rename buttons etc. so i called logitech's tech service which will help you for the first 60 days FREE
i got this really cool guy on the phone and we went through each of my components-how i use them= where i had issues and he reprogrammed my remote to do several things automatically by pressing 1 button from his desk.
The unit can also learn by pointing one remote to the other etc., which i havent done yet.
The unit also allows you to prioritize what you listen to most to make access easier.
so now when i want to watch tv in 5.1 stereo, i presss one button. the tv comes on, the cable box comes on, the stereo comes on and i can leave three remotes in the drawer. press one button and they all shut down
Technology- what a concept. This unit can handle up to 12 remotes!
runs on 4 aaa batteries- one set is in the unit and they supply a fresh set also which they recommend doing since there is a demo button one can press while the unit is still in its unable to be opened by humans packaging-lol
went to ebay and bought rechargeables and charger for the future.
Highly recommended by me for all us remote- where is it? oh no batteries are dead- type people
