Dimensions of short scale basses
« on: July 25, 2010, 02:19:15 PM »
Can anyone provide me with the dimensions of a standard Series short scale? I'm wondering if I can adapt a flight case I have for my highly anticipated shorty for flying.

According to Alembic's website, short scale Basses are 30.75 and medium ones are 32...
Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!

Since it's about case fitment, I'm guessing Edwin wants overall length, body length, width at upper bout, waist, and lower bout, and overall thickness (and I can be of no help with the answers.  Sorry).

Someone with a short scale small body should draw an outline of their bass on paper and mail it to Edwin.

I have the SC model, but I'm not sure if the dimensions are quite the same all around compared to a Series. In terms of possible, the external dimensions of the case are 48 long, 17 wide and 4.5 deep. Overall length of the bass is just about 44. The body is about 14 wide at the widest, and about 14.5 long. It's about 10.5 wide at the horns and 9 at the waist. The headstock is almost exactly 6 wide including the tuners, and it is about 8.25 long to the business end of the nut.

The exact specs will have to differ a bit from bass to bass when the neck dimensions are altered. My basses have a slightly narrower neck, so they may be a bit narrower in the body as a result. Body thickness, in particular, tends to vary mine is a bit over 1.5 on the bass with no back laminate, and the knobs and hardware stand most of an inch up from the body.

Hope that helps you decide if it is possible, assuming your intent is to adjust/replace the foam.

Thanks Bob! That's exactly what I was looking for. If anyone knows if a Series I shorty is different, please chime in, but I think this will help me deal with a possible case conversion.

My guess would be that body thickness could be a bit more than on the SC.
