When I was mixing at New George's in San Rafael in 1985-86, I didn't really know anything about him. He played there a few times and thankfully didn't bring his own mixer. What a shock it was for me, to be totally surprised by his playing. One of the best jobs I ever had, working there.......

Cippolina could really play.  Quicksilver was one of the big three S.F. bands, along with the Dead and the Airplane.  (I have the poster for Bill Graham's first New Year's Eve show featuring those three bands, 9:00 p.m.-9:00 a.m., with breakfast for $4!)
I remember when John was a regular after-midnight fixture at the Dead's NYE shows at Winterland. Those were the days, my friend.

Bill, tgo

Caught Cip a few times at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz -  with Zero and with the Dinosaurs - great player.
