Thanks Harry, but it's probably not  going to happen.  With the JJ in Germany, my biggest concern would be it's arriving here as two separate Basses!
When I had the chance to buy it before, it was still in the States.

Cheers,

Well I guess it got to Germany in one piece so its a high probability of it getting back to the USA in one piece. You may regret even more not getting it this time.

Alot of guitars get destroyed travelling within the U.S. & Canada. Even when packed properly and shipped by reputable companies. I couldn't live with myself after the expense and receive it damaged.  A risk I won't take.  If it ever returns to the U.S. or Canada (in one piece) and comes up for sale again, I'll drive to  wherever it is and pick it up personally.

When I had the chance to buy it before,  I had already committed myself to my two customs (Dark Prince & Evil Twin - Aug. 2002).  I should have cancelled them and bought the John Judge (Which cost substantially less).

It was my mistake, as letting it go this time probably is as well.  I need it here first and undamaged before I buy it.  I know that's asking too much - so I'll just wait for it to return at someone else's risk and expense.

Thanks Jazzyvee,  I hope so too.  I still haven't completely closed the door on the idea.

I'm still looking into the logistics involved.

I was on vacation for the last three weeks, in the wide lonely land of the thousand lakes in the North East of Germany, without newspapers, radio, tv, let alone internet access... and what do I spy on my first visit here thereafter ?

A brutal thread hijacking... But while we're at it, I might put my thoughts into it as well.

I bought two Alembics stateside, the Doubleneck as well as the Seismic bass, and both arrived safe. I had friends and a coworker along with me to protect and take care of the basses. Of course, you have to take extra precautions, thick padding and an extra wrapping around the case. I have seen ground handling people throwing guitar cases on the transport belt like they wanted to destroy the guitar inside, and if the guitar belonged to me, I would have been jailed for the rest of my life. You simply cannot accompany your baby everywhere, that's right, but you can do more than just put an instrument in a HSC, leave it at the baggage check in and pray...

Another thought: John himself was very keen last year to buy back Goliath. He had real bad luck, so he at least postponed his thoughts about that, and I haven't had contact with him for quite a long time... but if he makes an offer, everybody else has to step back in line, of course...

cheers to all of you,
Christian
