Does anybody know of a way to get a bass autographed by Stanley Clarke? I know he is originally from Phila, area which is where I'm from. I have an Essence bass that is very close to a Stanley Clarke Signature model. All it really needs is the upgrade to Signature electronice which I've already sent an e-mail to Mica inquiring about the feasabilty and cost to do that.
It doesn't have Rosewood or Coco Bolo front laminates, it is Flamed maple so an autogragh on the peghead would really show up.
If anyone has any ideas on how to go about getting this done please let me know.

I saw Stanley last month in Seattle. After the show he invited everybody to say hi to him in his dressing room. Although he was encouraging us to by some of the CD's he brought with him. I got to meet him and shake his hand. He is a very kind man. He seems to be happy to sign things. I would suggest go see him at a small venue. He is very accessible.

Will; one thing that some folks do is take the electronics cavity cover with them to a gig and have the artist sign that. It's a lot easier and more practical to carry around than a bass case. Plus, if you ever decide to sell the bass (for instance if you land an SC Series II), a lot of buyers prefer to purchase instruments that do not have autographs on them; thus if the autograph is on a cavity cover, the buyer has the option of replacing the cover (unless it's a continuous wood cover). Just a thought. Of course I can certainly see where one might prefer the autograph on the peghead.

Or have them sign the inside of the cover and not have to worry about replacing it if selling.

A couple of years ago Mike Pisanek and I trecked down to London to see Stanley play. We met up with JazzyVee at the gig. I had the cover of School days with me and Jazzy had his control cavity cover. At the end of the gig we were lucky to spot Stanley leaving the venue so we gave chase, eventually catching him 20 yards or so along the road. He grudgingly signed my album cover but told Jazzy that he'd be back. I can't recall how long Jazzy waited but Stanley didn't reappear. I guess my point is that all artistes have their off days and may not want to deal with fans after they've played.

I don't know what happened this past time Stanley was in town at the Carolina Theatre but prior to that he came out to the lobby to sign autographs. I remember a person bringing in a bass to be autographed. This is quite common with a lot of the artists that play there.

You might also try to find an early SC Signature - they actually had the signature as some sort of inlay on the front of the peghead. Same for early MK and EVH models.

Those signatures were just a sticker, I believe.

Like Graeme said sometimes they have their off days.
I caught Stanley a few years back,,, had nothing for him to autograph. But he was the coolest, calmest, nicest guy to meet.... unfortunately I was a bumbling wreck to be in his presence, I do not even remember what I said to him or he to me....
- note the deer in the headlights expression from me.
