I went to this show last night in Dallas. It was kind of a let down. Both acts just seemed to play throught set like they were at a 9-5 job. I realize these guys (as well as myself) are not as young as they used to be but they could of at least showed SOME level of enjoyment and appreciation of their fans.

Top's set lasted about 50 minutes and included a wide range of their material from over the years and NO encore.
Aerosmiths set lasted about 90 minutes including their encore and a half hearted 10 minute blues jam with Billy Gibbons joining them.
The sound was OK, their light show was cool, but I'm more into the music.

All in all though if they come to your area, stay home and play their CD's and save the $40 to $50 bucks for the tickets.

I'm a fan of both...I had the same impression of ZZ Top when I saw them in the late 80's.
I went to two shows and they were exactly the same.
...and nothing like the old albums as depth and feeling goes.

(these days I always remember that at least they are creating jobs)

I saw Aerosmith a few years back with Kid Rock and Run DMC. To be honest, Aerosmith put on the least enjoyable set. They changed guitars after almost every song, and kind of Phoned in their set. I know these guys are very talented, and it could have been an off night, but I wouldn't run out to see them again.

I?ve seen Aerosmith several times. In the 70?s and 80?s their shows we?re energetic but their playing wasn?t up to par, they were ?partying? pretty hard back then. I saw them in 2003 at the Harley 100th anniversary party in Dallas and that show rocked. They sounded great, the lights were awesome and they all moved like they were all in their 20?s. Of course they were all a lot more ?sober? than in their earlier days.

Now as for ZZ Top, they?ve never been an exciting band to watch but they always sounded great. Not the case last night, their playing was not sharp and they just seemed to go through the motions. I still like both bands but probably won?t be seeing them live again.

That is a good point these days I always remember that at least they are creating jobs, elwood.. Anything to aid the economy in this troubling time is a plus.

I hear ya Olie - it is sad when a 'performer' doesn't fufil the role of which they are in. It's like going to work and sitting on your hands.

I can watch some of the 'weakest' musicians play, as long as their heart is in it - it is a beautiful and enjoyable experience.

I caught ZZ Top the last time they came through Knoxville. I'd never seen them before, so I was glad I went. However, it was a real slop-fest. Billy Gibbons is a great blues guitarist, but you wouldn't have known it that night. Dusty was as underwhelming as ever (and someone PLEASE take away his microphone).

Its a shame but unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of that going around. I have had the privilege of seeing a lot of big name acts up close and talking to them at aftershows. I won't mention the not so greats but the bands that play each show like its their honor not just a job are the ones that impress me. Personally I always put everything into a performance. People pay money to come see you and deserve the best you can do. I've seen shows that though I didn't care for the genre of music I respected the performers for their passion and performance. I hope no one will ever accuse me of phoning it in. BTW the first show I ever saw was Aerosmith and Golden Earring at the Garden in 1978. The Toxic Twins were to high to do the job. Even as a 15 year old I could see that.
I have an important gig in NYC Monday and I'm breaking my back to make it count, as it should be. I'm sure to be the only Alembic user on the bill.

I hear ya Danno.

I got to see The James Gang reunion tour a little over a year ago. One of the top concerts I've ever seen. They were tight, the sound was awesome, they played for a couple of hours and they seemed to really enjoy what they were doing.
Joe Walsh was a joy to watch and he had so much fun with the crowd, even poking some fun at his age and his self inflicted brain cell deficiency?. But Joe?s playing was on man, I don?t think I?ve ever heard him sound better.
Those are the concerts I don't mind paying some hard earned cash to see.
