For those in the Northwest and/or familiar with the area:

My wife and I head up to Seattle tomorrow afternoon where I am scheduled to speak at the annual Hempfest celebration this weekend. I have some free time on Friday and thought I might check out a guitar store or two. Last year a friend brought me to Emerald City guitars, a wonderful shop. I'm definitely going back there again. Any other suggestions?

Bill If you are looking for the odd and unique and some beautiful acoustics. wild shapes, I am not sure he is still there but there was a place I stopped in one time in Seattle called Parson's guitar shop

For you Seattle area Alembic Club members, Bill is scheduled for Saturday at 3:45 on the Share Parker Memorial Main Stage. And he's also scheduled to be part of a panel discussion Saturday morning at 11:00 on the Hemposium Music Stage.

GuitarEmporium is a nice neighborhood acoustic shop,
and there is a good sandwich shop down the street; The other coast cafe .

Dusty Strings in Fremont is more folk instrument oriented...they have some acoustics (and harps,dulcimers,etc).

I am sad to have to miss that. It is the club championship(golf) this weekend. Two things I would enjoy here, Meeting a club member and Hempfest. I have been dissapointed lately with stores in Seattle. If you come to Portland I will show you every store in Town, Bill.

SUNDAY:

Seely Stage @ 5 p.m.

McWilliams Stage @ 6:40 P.M.

At least, that's the latest schedule they sent me.

I have played hempfest several times. It is always a memorable experience. Just don't eat the brownies. Had to turn it down this year for a paying gig Saturday night.

Some shops you may want to check out are......

Across the street from Guitar Emporium, in beautiful down town Ballard, a strange and funky guitar shop opened up. I don't know the name but they sell some very strange off beat stuff.

Parson's is a repair shop more than a guitar shop. And it's next to the Guitar center. So bad Karma must be dripping into the place. We got Mike Lull here in town. Hide your credit cards before you walk into his shop. He makes some fine stuff. My favorite place in the world is BassNW. A 15 minute walk from Hempfest, and just a few blocks from Emerald City guitars. They have several Alembic Basses, no guitars. But worth checking out.

If your free Friday, late afternoon, I'll be taking my sailboat out for an hour or so. Always nice to have musicians aboard. The boat is in Ballard. Call anytime me at 206-660-9837. This offer stand for any alembic club members who want to sail.

Parson's isn't really a store - at all. Its a repair and build shop. Not too much to see there. But Randy does fantastic work.

Change in schedule. I'm no longer on the Human Rights for Cannabis Farmers, Dispensers, and Consumers panel at 11:00 on Saturday. Instead, I'll be on the California panel on Sunday at 11:50 - same place. Had a great Italian dinner last night at Il Bistro. Now I'm off to Emerald City Guitars and to track down the store across from Guitar Emporium. Dinner tonight at some place called the Dahlia Lounge. I hear it's good. Then on to a reception at the Center for Wooden Boats. Lots of Starbucks around here!

Might as well check out Bass Northwest while you are there! It's a bass player's heaven and they often have a number of nice Alembics.

I found a Daion Power Mark X in very nice condition at Emerald City Guitars. By the way, the new shop across and down the street a couple of blocks from Guitar Emporium is Bradley's Guitars. It's been there about a month. He specializes in older low and mid level guitars. Lot's of 60's Japanese makes, Ekos, Danelectros, weird stuff. Very cool and different store and he's a very nice guy. Hempfest was a blast.
