F-2B and an Eden WT-600 Head
« on: August 06, 2010, 09:50:46 AM »
Currently my rig is just an Alembic SF-2 and an Eden WT600 head. I'm thinking of getting an F-2B. would having this make much of a difference to my sound? or would it not make too much of a difference seeing that the Eden already has tubes?

Thanks
Connor

Hi Connor,

I have an F-2B and an Eden WT-800. Comparing the sound of the Eden Solo and the F-2B in front: It is totally different. It matters if you use the F-2B as Preamp and the WT-800 only as power amp or as full amp, going from the Alembic preamp to the input of the eden. The second option gives you the maximum tone control.

I would say the Eden sounds more Hifi-like but warmer than solid transistor amps like the old Acoustic model. But if you want the Tube-Sound like Ampeg SVT add the F-2B. It's worth!

When I first got my F-1X I plugged it into the back of my WT800 and thought it was a huge difference.

Not all tube circuits are created the same. I think the F2B is very different from the Eden circuits. I've struggled a lot with Eden equipment, so they are not my personal cup of tea. I find the midrange strange. So, for my taste, an F2B in front of it or even better, straight into the power amp section, would be a big improvement. That said, some folks get a really great tone out of these amps!

I like to use  my F-2B as the front end to 2 GK MB15OE amps for a nice little Coffee House  rig.

I'd run the F2B and the SuperFilter into the 'power amp input' (bypassing the tone section/preamp) of the Eden and call it a day.
To use those two and the front end of the WT would be a bottomless pit / mishmash of tone control for me.  Simple is WAY better.

Then I'd sell the Eden, take the money and buy a good power amp.

I, too, have burnt scars on my butt from David Nordschow's brilliantly-designed / quality-control-by-crackheads equipment.  Excuse the rant . . .
