I remember Summers in San Francisco, a cool Cat name: Ray White, (one the most serious member of Zappa's fantastic band -- played rhythm guitar, and Ray was very well known for his commanding singing voices of the band). Ray, would appear many times over my drummer's house with axe-in-hand, and jam with us.
I was only a 18 years old kid, with this baddass Alembic S1 that was very commanding even with Ray.
In those days, the song: You are what you is was scoring huge with audiences world-wide; and then the song: Valley Girl took them to the moon. Those were some wild times for Ray in deed.
Anyway, since we all lived close by each other, Ray would always come over unannounced, and the three of us would play for hours and rap about his big adventures with Frank Zappa and everything else with music.
Ray's visits, was and will always be a memorable experience, and deep down, I believe he came over to to get away from the lime lights of fame and money, and cars, homes and crap to humble down with people, who didn't see him as a member of a famous band nor cared about the junk. With Ray, we all were able to take off the mask, and draw-down our defenses. Of course with me as this skinny college kid playing this baddass Alembic, and a drummer who worked for a major electric utility company, didn't have nearly the problems of Ray.
However, whenever we got together, we were able to find peace, and an oasis from the world.
Those were some beautiful days in San Francisco, once upon a time...
