Womens XL2 leather belts into guitar straps...
« on: January 17, 2010, 09:39:01 PM »
I converted as many as 6 beautiful 3-1/4 width leather belts, into extremely comfortable guitar straps, and also saved a bundle too.

It took some ingenuity, but after completing the retro-fit, they look fabulous.

I'll show pictures.

Peace and love,

Hal-

I paid about $15.00 per belt and the conversion cost about $3.00 and some change for the fasteners.

Just a secrets, so don't tell anybody

No worries, and no more push pins, spring snaps, or false security. These home made leather fasteners (I made) works better than anything on the market and it keeps metal away from the wood period.

Once I hand tighten the fasteners to the strap, it's locked on.

I never seen pants loops big/large enough, to thread something as big as these leather straps (...for something once defined, for woman's fashion.)

My conversions, had just significantly increased the value of these belts, more than 10 fold.

Converting these belts, were really fun to do, if you are into arts and crafts... (as I am) and I'll probably make more, if I find other interesting varieties.

Peace and Love,

Back in the 80's somebody sold strap locks exactly like the ones you made... they worked really well.

Mike, that is correct, you are right...

My Shorty had them on (leather strap locks) when I found her, and back in the 80's, I used them on my first Alembic S1.

I loved them so much, I went to a leather tannery shop, and purchased several feet of cowhide and made them for all my guitars.

It's easy to do, and the hardware was very easy to locate.

I live and breath by them.
