Great American Taxi releases a new CD
« on: March 11, 2010, 09:26:11 PM »
I'm not sure where to post this, so I guess miscellaneous will work.

Great American Taxi just released their latest CD, Reckless Habits. We recorded it more than a year ago at Backbone Studio in Loveland, CO. Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth produced it (and played all over it). Other guests include Barry Sless on pedal steel and electric guitar, The Black Swan Singers (a wonderful gospel trio from Denver), Matt Flinner and the Peak to Freak Horns, among others. It was a blast to make and I'm really glad it's finally out after a lot of time getting management and record company politics together. It debuted at #25 on the Americana charts and is on the Sirius Outlaw channel. Sadly, I'm not touring the album, but the guys are hitting the road hard. More information and samples can be heard at www.greatamericantaxi.com or www.myspace.com/greatamericantaxi.

I've played mostly funky jazzier music for most of my life, so it's really interesting making inroads on the country/Americana/bluegrass world.

Edwin
PS The recording is all Starfire with F2B preamp. They captured the bass OK, not quite the full majesty of tone it has live, but it's a hard sound to get to stand out in a busy mix.

Duh, never mind... it's been brought to my attention that you're not doing the tour.  I'll still try and check them out as the festival in Johnson City sounds very nice!  Cheers

Funny you should mention that, Mike. After David Glasser mastered it, he mentioned to me that he loved the disc, it brought him back to his misspent youth!

David gets to do some wonderful projects. Right now Airshow is working on mastering the next Grateful Dead video (from the day after the Truckin' Up to Buffalo). Living in Boulder has its perks. At the CD release party, a couple of weeks ago at the Boulder Theater, David, Mike Grace (www.gracedesign.com) and Eric Abramson (videographer for The Cove) were all hanging out backstage getting into esoteric conversations about remote mic preamps in the field and battery systems for lugging stuff to remote parts of India, or surreptitiously filming the dolphin slaughter. Mike has just come out with a new channel strip (preamp, eq and compressor) that might be a cool option as a bass preamp. He's kind of like the Ron Wickersham of mic preamps.

It's definitely an inspiring town to be in!

We don'nt cover songs,we take basic stucture and do our own version, then we never play it the same way twice, keeps the band sounding fresh all the time

I'm just surprised that the song has gotten far enough to have bands cover it as this is the first time it's been on an official release  and Vince only wrote it 18 months ago.

Thanks to Edwin I now have a copy of Reckless Habits. I listened to the first 5 tracks on the way in to work this morning and I am loving it! Some real funky stuff, and great arrangments, too. This album may become a new favorite; can't wait for the drive home when I can listen to a few more cuts.

Congratulations!  Wishing you a continuing rise in the charts!  Looking forward to a new mountain event and plan to see the band in June.
