In My Room

I ran across this tune a few minutes ago, and thought I would share the moment with you guys.  It's kind of a haunting tune when you know some of the back story.  Quite a few years ago now there was a made-for-teevee movie that was a bio of the Beach Boys, and perhaps more specifically of Brian Wilson.  Theirs, and his, was a pretty tragic story, and it gave me a new perspective on their music.
 
For you younger folks, the Beach Boys churned out a lot of material, and made a lot of poppy hits.  The close harmonies were at times beautiful, but Brian's songwriting was at times superb, and it got better over time until ..
 
This tune is pretty early, but shows what Brian was capable of, and hints at what was to come, both musically, and otherwise.

Yes, Dave, anybody that doesn't have 'Pet Sounds' is missing out on a lot.
 
I always laugh when a I hear the story about Hal Blaine (the great, been-there-seen-everything studio drummer) and the rest of the early 60's LA A-Team grizzled session players taking advice from this kid (Brian Wilson) and Blaine says it was because 'he knew what he was doing!'.

When I worked for Bill Graham  Presents   BGP  I remember seeing the Beach Boys live . That show was at the Oakland Colosseum , one of the Day on The  Green shows.
