Best Body Shape for a Medium Scale Bass
« on: August 21, 2010, 07:01:15 AM »
I'm having a custom Mark Deluxe 4 string built with a medium scale neck with extra light strings.
I want this bass to be able to be held high up like Mark hold his bass for the best angle for slapping and his style of playing. I have a Europa long scale and love that body shape. But I was wondering if a Standard or Standard point would be a better body shape for this application. I was going to get the Europa body and peg head but just wanted to see if anybody had an opinion on which body shape would be better. I haven't seen anyone post pictures of a medium scale Europa but would like to see how it looks. I was wondering if the Standard body shape more comfortable held higher than a Europa body.
Let me know what you think
Thanks
Willie

Willie. I have a balance 'K' sig dlx and have in the past had it as high as mark does. It was pretty comfortable and being a smaller body didn't look too stupid. However, I now play it pretty low as I don't slap.

Willie, you might want to consider the 3/4 MK shape.... it's one of my personal favorites. I play w/ my strap high, and have a 32 standard omega. It balances very nicely.

Can you post a picture of that bass? I've been paying more and more attention to the body that a Mark King comes with standard and need to make a decision soon.
Thanks

I have a medium scale Essence.  The small body with the medium scale balances perfectly for me.

Thanks Mario, but all the credit goes to the wizards at Alembic! Mica says that she's seen a couple of others w/ that same detail, I wish their owners would chime in!!
